From the introduction:
“[…] More than 40 years ago, Sublette & Sublette (1973) published the first Oriental Catalogue [of midges,] confirming 219 species in 55 genera keeping 130 and 90 species as “unplaced” and “nomina dubia” respectively under 4 subfamilies, Chironominae (23 genera), Diamesinae (3 genera), Orthocladiinae (19 genera) and Tanypodinae (10 genera). Thereafter, researches on the subject have resulted in quite a good number of genera and species from this important zoogeographic region. Recently, Ashe & O’Connor (2009a, 2012a) have partly published a world catalogue of Chironomidae. However, the requirement for an updated checklist with more information is earnestly desired. Accordingly, we have prepared an updated checklist of the Chironomidae of the Oriental Region with their type-locality, distribution and relevant literature.”
